I-751 Petition Receipt Notices Now Valid for 24 Months as Proof of Status

Starting on September 4, 2021, conditional permanent residents who properly file Form I-751, Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence, will receive a receipt notice that can be presented with their green card as evidence of continued status for 24 months past the expiration date on their green card.  Previously, USCIS issued receipt notices valid for 18 months.  USCIS decided to make the change to 24 months to better reflect the current processing times, which have greatly increased over the past year.

For conditional permanent residents who filed their I-751 petition prior to September 4, 2021, and whose petitions remain pending, USCIS will issue new receipt notices to serve as evidence of continued status for 24 months past the expiration date on their green card.  This is an important change, as it will allow conditional permanent residents to use their receipt notice as proof of status for work, school, when traveling abroad, etc. for an additional six months while their petition is pending.
