According to a White House statement issued on May 1, 2023, nonimmigrant international air travelers will no longer be required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination starting on May 12, 2023. The requirement was initially implemented in 2021 in response to the COVID public health emergency to slow the spread of new variants. The end of the requirement coincides with the official end date to the COVID-19 public health emergency.
Similarly, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced on the same day that the COVID-19 vaccination requirement will also end for nonimmigrant international travelers by land from Mexico and Canada, starting on May 12, 2023. While the proof of vaccination rules remain in place through the end of May 11, 2023, nonimmigrants who have not been fully vaccinated according to CDC guidelines will be allowed to board international flights into the U.S. and enter the U.S. by land from Mexico and Canada as of May 12, 2023.
