Mail Delivery Process for ADIT Stamps

Lawful permanent residents (LPRs) may now be eligible to receive temporary evidence of their LPR status through a new mail delivery process instead of having to make an appointment and physically visit a U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) field office.

In some situations, LPRs may require temporary evidence of their status in the form of an Alien Documentation, Identification, and Telecommunication (ADIT) stamp, also called an I-551 stamp.  LPRs are entitled to an ADIT stamp if they do not have their green card or if their Form I-90, Application to Replace Permanent Resident Card, Form I-751, Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence, or Form N-400, Application for Naturalization, is pending and their extension notice has expired.

In order to request an ADIT stamp, LPRs must call the USCIS Contact Center.  An immigration services officer will then verify their identity, mailing address, whether that address can receive UPS or FedEx express mail, and whether the LPR has a usable photo in the USCIS system.  Based on that information, the officer will either schedule an in-person appointment for the ADIT stamp or submit a request to the field office to issue and mail a Form I-94 with an ADIT stamp, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) seal, and a printed photo of the LPR.  USCIS will determine the validity period on a case-by-case basis, not to exceed one year.
